Read MoreA week and a half ago my little, younger brother Steve flew to Alaska to go Salmon fishing out of Dillingham on Bristol Bay. It takes me back to when I went to Alaska myself. Now Alaska and I have a love/hate relationship, I love her, she doesn’t reciprocate, let me explain..
Read MoreTransitions, they happen all the time in life, you transition from crawling to walking from high school to college from college to the workplace.
Read MoreDreams, we all have them. Now I’m not talking about the random things that go through your mind when you sleep, but a goal, a view of what you want your life to be in the future. One of the most famous speeches in history was about a dream. Dr. King’s speech has been used and referred to numerous times since he gave it in the 60’s. Do you have a dream?
Read MoreLife is fragile; this was made very apparent to me Friday morning when I found out that a friend from high school had passed away from Cancer. It was and still is a shock to my system. I knew Jerret had cancer but it still didn’t seem possible that he could die so young.
Read MoreA very happy belated birthday to my grandpa who turned 79 last Sunday. I was lucky enough to spend his birthday with him in Arizona last weekend. At 79 Poppie has more energy, craziness and verve for life in his little finger than most men twenty years his junior. He is the example of what I want to be in life. Beyond the success he has found, is an open love for those around him. He gets enjoyment from seeing those around him happy, whether its financial, relationships or just giving advise. It’s that BIG HEARTED love that I want to replicate.
Read MoreIts been quite a while since I've written anything and even longer since I've felt in the writing mood. Like my Grandpa says "Its about what you do after you get bucked off" so I'm hopping backing up and hoping that a concerted effort will break through this four-month writing block that I'm mired in.
Read MoreThere are days in life that we remember vividly, we remember everything that happened that day, what we were thinking, saying and doing. Working with older Americans I’ve learned that these days include the day you get married, the day your first child is born and acts of war. They tell me stories about these days all the time. They tell me about their weddings and about how it felt to hold their first child in their hands. They tell me wild stories about the Attack on Pearl Harbor, how they heard, what they were doing and how it changed their life. I can’t say that I know what many of those days feel like, except for when there is an act of war.
Read MoreCupcake games, they happened every year in college football. They usually guarantee a blow out victory to start the season. Big high ranked Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams bring in little Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools and pay them to get beat down. I’m against these games being scheduled and think that the big conferences should move away from allowing these games.
Read MoreEnjoy the little things, you’ve heard many people say that to kids and young adults. Sometimes we fail to realize how important being able to enjoy little things in life is to our overall happiness. These little things can be almost anything you enjoy, depending on where you live the things that mean the most to you can change.
Read MoreD-Day is upon me. I have my first fantasy football draft of the year today. The weight of success in this season largely rests on what happens today. Drafts are ever changing by the second as no one places the same about of value on every player. There are varying strategies that are put in play depending on when you picks are the style of the draft and how you want to load your roster.
Read MoreThere is a new development in the world of sports; Roger Goodell (yes that Roger Goodell, architect of the No Fun League) has taken over the body Tim Finchem’s body. This fact was no more evident then when last weeks the PGA banned “caddy races” at golf tournaments.
Read More“Some people pursue happiness, others create it” reads the only piece of art in my appointment. Every morning it’s the first thing I see, and I see it every time I walk out of my bedroom. It helps me start every day in the mindset that I can go out and half ass my job or I can go out bust my ass and create future happiness. Some days its hard to focus on the end game when the minutia of everyday work and life gets in the way, that’s when I have to remind myself where I’m going.
Read MoreGoing through a loss is part of life. It is something we all experience in one form or another. For me lately it has been losing my girlfriend and my cousin moving to California for nursing school. In the last of a month I have packed up the two people I spent almost everyday of the last year with, loaded their cars and watched them drive out of my life. It’s left me at a loss of companionship and my support system. Naturally I’ve been looking for stories of good things happening to people who have or are experiencing loss, little did I know that I wouldn’t have to look any further for a story than the PGA Championship.
Read MoreLast night I was hanging out with one of my best friends Daniel and catching up with a friend from my childhood and his wife. It was great to catch up and see what has been going on over the last 15 years since we had seen each other. I was taken a back by something my friend's wife said, "The worst thing you can say to me is that I'm wrong, it makes me feel stupid."
Read MoreBoundaries, the word carries a negative connotation when people usually talk about them. They are seen as a bad thing, something only used during breakups or divorces. It seems that few people talk about the positives and advantages of having boundaries. Right now I’m in what I consider a learning situation, I did or didn’t do a few things and this caused me to push away a person I love and deeply care about. One thing I didn’t do is set some boundaries and breakdown another one.
Read MoreThere are few things I love more than football season. For two days every weekend from September to January I can be in front of a TV or at a stadium and there are few places I’d rather be in the world. While soccer may be the most popular sport in the world, football is king in America. Every season is enthralling for different reasons with many pieces making the tapestry of the game breathe taking. While there are derivatives to the game that I greatly enjoy I will stick with the game of football itself. From rookies or freshman making unexpected splashes to wiley veterans showing that they still have it the seasons never lack interesting stories.
Read MoreOne of the biggest stories in the NBA right now is Doc Rivers leaving the Boston Celtics to coach the Los Angeles Clippers. Not much has been made about how he left, in fact most are giving him a pass except ESPN’s Bill Simmons, a die hard Celtics fan and oddly enough a Clippers season ticket holder. Like many fans, Simmons thinks that Rivers quit on the Celtics rather than face a rebuilding phase, he still had three years left of a five-year contract he signed two years ago.
Read MoreLately I've caught myself thinking, what's next? Where do I go from here, how long do I stay here before I move on and where to I move on to? Do I try to work up the chain here or do I strike out on my own? Should I be looking to go back to school or switch industries? Should I move to Hawaii for a year?
