Alaska.. A love/hate Relationship

Alaska.. A love/hate Relationship

A week and a half ago my little, younger brother Steve flew to Alaska to go Salmon fishing out of Dillingham on Bristol Bay. It takes me back to when I went to Alaska myself. Now Alaska and I have a love/hate relationship, I love her, she doesn’t reciprocate, let me explain..

Do You Have A Dream?

Do You Have A Dream?

Dreams, we all have them. Now I’m not talking about the random things that go through your mind when you sleep, but a goal, a view of what you want your life to be in the future. One of the most famous speeches in history was about a dream.  Dr. King’s speech has been used and referred to numerous times since he gave it in the 60’s. Do you have a dream?

My Huckleberry

My Huckleberry

A very happy belated birthday to my grandpa who turned 79 last Sunday. I was lucky enough to spend his birthday with him in Arizona last weekend. At 79 Poppie has more energy, craziness and verve for life in his little finger than most men twenty years his junior. He is the example of what I want to be in life. Beyond the success he has found, is an open love for those around him. He gets enjoyment from seeing those around him happy, whether its financial, relationships or just giving advise. It’s that BIG HEARTED love that I want to replicate.

Jump Into The Fog

Jump Into The Fog

've always been fascinated by fog, it is like a filter that can make even the most barren landscapes beautiful. The last few days Eugene has been covered in a blanket of fog, yesterday I finally had a chance to get out and explore. I spent a few hours getting lost in the fog, not lost as in not knowing where I was mind you, but lost in the beauty that the fog was creating.

Never Forget!

Never Forget!

There are days in life that we remember vividly, we remember everything that happened that day, what we were thinking, saying and doing. Working with older Americans I’ve learned that these days include the day you get married, the day your first child is born and acts of war. They tell me stories about these days all the time. They tell me about their weddings and about how it felt to hold their first child in their hands. They tell me wild stories about the Attack on Pearl Harbor, how they heard, what they were doing and how it changed their life. I can’t say that I know what many of those days feel like, except for when there is an act of war.

Time To Take Cupcakes Off The Menu

Cupcake games, they happened every year in college football. They usually guarantee a blow out victory to start the season. Big high ranked Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams bring in little Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools and pay them to get beat down. I’m against these games being scheduled and think that the big conferences should move away from allowing these games.

D-Day (The non-warfare type)

D-Day (The non-warfare type)

D-Day is upon me. I have my first fantasy football draft of the year today. The weight of success in this season largely rests on what happens today. Drafts are ever changing by the second as no one places the same about of value on every player. There are varying strategies that are put in play depending on when you picks are the style of the draft and how you want to load your roster.

Creating Happiness

Creating Happiness

“Some people pursue happiness, others create it” reads the only piece of art in my appointment. Every morning it’s the first thing I see, and I see it every time I walk out of my bedroom. It helps me start every day in the mindset that I can go out and half ass my job or I can go out bust my ass and create future happiness. Some days its hard to focus on the end game when the minutia of everyday work and life gets in the way, that’s when I have to remind myself where I’m going.

Here's to you Mr. Dufner

Here's to you Mr. Dufner

Going through a loss is part of life. It is something we all experience in one form or another. For me lately it has been losing my girlfriend and my cousin moving to California for nursing school. In the last of a month I have packed up the two people I spent almost everyday of the last year with, loaded their cars and watched them drive out of my life. It’s left me at a loss of companionship and my support system. Naturally I’ve been looking for stories of good things happening to people who have or are experiencing loss, little did I know that I wouldn’t have to look any further for a story than the PGA Championship.

Starting...... Over....

Last night I was hanging out with one of my best friends Daniel and catching up with a friend from my childhood and his wife. It was great to catch up and see what has been going on over the last 15 years since we had seen each other. I was taken a back by something my friend's wife said, "The worst thing you can say to me is that I'm wrong, it makes me feel stupid."
